Triumph (21WTG)

My training weeks usually feel like a slow burn. Monday is a light training day (recovering from big weekend training), Tuesday is a rest day, Wednesday is usually light, and so it doesn't feel like things step up until Thursday.

So this week I had a few days between getting my weekly program over the weekend and the onslaught to worry about how the hell I was going to get it done.

I stopped being worried some weeks ago about how I was going to finish Le Tour de Dugong. I figured I'd do what I could do, and see what happened. This is much the same approach that I have had to all my big fitness goals, because when I signed up for a marathon and my first half ironman that wasn't in the realm of possibility either.

But this week is the first time I started to believe that I could finish Le Tour in one piece. It will be hard, it won't be fun all the time (but certainly most of the time), but it can be done. In the last couple of months my fitness and endurance has improved amazingly, and I still have 21 weeks to go!

More scarily this week is the first time that I started to see Ironman as a possibility too. My two main obstacles thus far have been the mental block of running a marathon after a 7 or 8 hour bike ride, and having a semblance of a life with the training load. But I can see that you can train yourself into IM fitness, and I am having a pretty good stab at a life whilst training currently.

So maybe this is the week that my ironman motto changed from "Just say no!" to "Just say maybe". Its a slippery slope people.

My training diary this week is bought to you by all the TV shows I haven't had time to watch for the past six months. Back at home I wanted to stop watching TV (seriously, is there anything other than the same four episodes of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory playing on free to air TV?), but when its there its so hard. Now I have no TV. I do miss some of my favourite characters, but they will be waiting for me when I have the time. And if I never watch those shows, it will be no great tragedy, because it will because I was out LTD!

PS- I had a lot of encouragement this week from many sources. Thanks so much! And a special thanks to Cass, Andrew and Jess for being training buddies, and to Coach Charlotte for her guidance and encouragement.

The week in numbers:
Swimming: 2 sessions
Cycling: 400km (includes 5x weekday commutes)
Running: 21.1km
Other: Spinning x1, Yoga x1, Massage x1, Stretch session x1
Smiles: Unlimited!
