Mind Games (23WTG)

My fitness endeavours started with running, and you soon learn that the whole thing is at least as much mental as physical. It's interesting to see what battles different people have, for me it remains running, but for others I know cycling or swimming poses that special little challenge for them.

This week was fairly quiet training wise, especially as I've spent the weekend hiking in Cornwall, sans bike (I can't help feel lazy not having put in a big ride this weekend), but it was a week of mental breakthrough for me.

Earlier this week I went to a Tour pub night, and met some of the other riders for the first time. I wasn't really sure what to expect. Would most of the others be snobby super fit cyclists with fancy bikes who would scoff at my short cycling history? No, most people were in a similar position to me, that is a little dazed and confused about the undertaking they've made! An interesting and friendly bunch of people- I can see many interesting conversations coming up on the bike.

Then later in the week there was a fire drill at my work, and in the standing around one of my colleagues (who is also a runner) asked how my training was going. Another nearby colleague overheard and asked what I was training for. His response upon telling him about the Tour was, "What? The whole thing? Do you really think you can do that?". For the first time I said a confident "Yes, if I keep training, I think I'll make it through."

So, my weekly training round up. No Ryan Gosling this week sorry ladies and gents!
