Stage 3: Cambridge to London

A gruelling day, but not because of the cycling. The day started early, with the bus leaving Sheffield at 6am for a 2.5 hour drive to Cambridge. After some cycling (more about that in a moment) a shower and dinner at the pub it was an drive (via the tunnel) to Le Touquet for a 2am arrival. I don't think I have ever been so exhausted. Which is what I have said every night so far.

The day was flat with no real hills, which sounds easy (or easier), but still equals continuous ups and downs. My new friend Todd and I had something of a mishap, going about 5km off course (whilst gasbagging). We did think about just navigating back on course, but we had bypassed the lunch stop- no laughing matter. A phone call and some back-pedalling ended in a special lunch box, eaten in the truck while we got dropped forward on the course a little, not making up any (or at least much) ground.

A big thanks goes out to Wendyn, who I just missed at the pub (thanks for the marmite, it will do!) and Supercoach Charlotte for the hug, pep talk and lovely gifts.

BVS Update: We showered at a nearby gym before chowing down some bangers and mash and the pub, and I'm sure the other ladies in the gym enjoyed listening to use cyclists discussing the state of BVS we were in. Two of our number are in what I would call a more serious state of BVS, one with blisters and the other with sores- both where blisters and sores should never be. Advice from the most seasoned cyclist in our group: lashings of Sudocreme (similar to Savlon) and a double pair of knicks (padded bike shorts). I'm finding the lashings of Sudocreme are working a treat, and I am thus far in good nick downstairs...
